Tow vehicle for under $30K

Looking for a used tow vehicle. Currently towing my 29' TT with a 2009 F250 XLT 5.4L V8 short box. I put a motorcycle in the back and the thing dogs on the highway and the hills.

I'm about to head up to Alaska from San Deigo and will be on the road for the next 2 years traveling with my trailer and motorcycle combo. I'm looking for something more powerful and also that has a bigger gas tank. I have less than 30K to spend on it.

I've been looking at F250 diesels, but it seems in my price range i can only afford the 6.4L.

I'm interested in any and all trucks you guys reccomend that are in my budget. Here is the f250 i found locally

I have found in the past that high mileage, when it goes on fast, is less damaging to a vehicle than is years of age.

Hey ain't that Ricatic's old truck :W But I agree in that the 6.7 PSD is hands down a better engine than the 6.4 PSD.

If your going diesel I would get an LBZ GM or an 04 to early 07 5.9.

If your going gas I would get a V10 F250 or even F350 or an 8.1 GM.

Any one of those will satisfy your urge for more get up and go. :)

    X2

I had an '01 Dually with the 8.1 and Allison trans. It was a great combo. I highly recommend it.

  • I got a nice increase in performance when I traded my 2005 F-250 with the 5.4 for a 6.0 Silverado 2500HD. With the six speed transmission, it tows much better than my F-250, and has the capacity to haul a load and pull a trailer at the same time. You should find plenty of late model 2500HD's in your price range. I only paid $35k for a brand new 2013 with the Work Truck option.

You should be able to find a forum member that will sell you theirs for that price.
  • Have you considered putting in a larger engine ?

$30K would get both a tranny rebuild and whatever was optional big displacement crate engine

    Plus an aux fuel tank

That us what I'd look at
