Tow vehicle

I am purchasing a 2011 F 250 XLT Super Duty Super Cab 6.7 Turbo diesel pick up. Am I going to have any problem pulling a 30 foot 5th wheel or a travel trailer?..I would appreciate any comments as this is all new to me...Thanks Tom

thanks for what?? they just called you an idiot. I would think the F-350 would be a better choice for your load on the truck.

2nd question. Why a Chev or Dodge??

Better quality, tried and proven motors, in the case of the Cummins 20% fewer moving parts.
  • First question is why? why not a chevy or dodge? For the money difference get a one ton. Guaranteed you will want to upgrade before the truck leaves home for good so might as well buy your future truck now and save the money for traveling.
  • It sounds to me as though you are going about your purchases in the wrong way. If you buy your tow vehicle first you are limiting what size and weight rv you can tow. If you buy the rv first then you know what type and size tow vehicle you need.

Should not be problem, pull a 33" 11,000# 5er with my 01 Ram, a bit over GVWR, but well under tires and axle, small chip good for about 50 hp and 140 lb. ft. of torque, makes it in the range of 285 hp, and 610 torque.
You will have power to spare, the big issue with 250/2500 and 5th wheels is Payload. If you have enough then you will be just fine.
  • Plenty of power there, you will have no problem. The 2011 Ford 6.7L diesel is rated at 400hp/800tq.

I pull a 36.5' 5th wheel that weighs about 12,000# with my 325hp/610tq Cummins - and it had no problems at all with the load when in stock trim. I have since bumped up the power with a programmer and exhaust.
  • Depends on the pin weight of the FW and the payload rating of the truck. A TT would not be an issue in any case.
  • Myself and many others tow 35'-42' toy haulers with SRW 6.7 powered trucks with great success so you should not have any issue at all with a 30'. My trailer is 37' long, 13'1" tall and weighs around 15,500 lbs fully loaded. I average just under 9 mpg towing it at highway speed and a little bit better on secondary roads at lower speeds.
