My thoughts:
1) Congrats on kiddo #3!! Thank you!
2) A "Duraburb" would be awesome (love the "unique" factor)I'd happily buy a new one if they made it. FWIW my Budget is <$50k....
3) A 4x4 diesel van* would be nearly as awesome (again, very unique)I'm not sure the 4WD vans can tow this much weight....???
3) If you're unhappy with the Ford 6.2L I think you'd be unhappy with the GM 6.0L That was my thought also...
4) You "could" consider finding a 2005 6.0L Excursion and taking it directly to Anthony of Super Duty Service in Grain Valley MO. See thread titled "Awesome 6.0L-only mechanic" Wasn't the X limited by rear suspension somehow? This might be an option I should look into further, trying to find a nice '05 and bulletproof the drivetrain....
5) You'd be on the envelope's edge but perhaps you could try to find an 8.1L 2500 Suburban and upgrading the hitch (I assume that's possible) I looked, and the few 8.1s around are pretty high mileage......and nearing 10 years old (like the X)......
*not sure of the model years but I believe, for a short time, there were GM all wheel drive Duramax vans on the market. I'll definitely check on thisAnother thought would be an E350 (V10 or diesel) with a Quigley 4x4 conversion
Happily, I think your budget would accomodate any of the above options.
Thanks for taking the time to respond!!
