I think the Duraburb is the perfect vehicle for you. I would love to have one myself some day. You will have a vehicle that should hold it's resale value very very well. The drive train is well proven even if it didn't come in that vehicle.
As for spending money to build a 6.0 Excursion I would pass. You will still have a 6.0 diesel when you're done which doesn't do much for resale.
By the way, as far as I know there were never any GM vans with the Duramax and AWD.
