FWIW - my Weekend Warrior (which I broke) was 41' long, 12' tall and weighed 11,000 dry 14,000 not toys but packed for a weekend and up to 18,000 pounds fully loaded. It towed great with my van, but it took some upgrades to get to that point. I towed fine behind a stock E350 wagon as well, but only when empty.
Another option not many think about.... How about a used shuttle bus? You get an E450 chassis, so you only need to add 4x4 (QuadVan does buses too!) and upgrade the interior. Used buses go pretty cheap, and even a new bus isn't much more than some of the new pickups. If you shop carefully, you can find nice towing features like full air-ride and eddy-current driveline-brakes. When my van finally kicks it, I may go that route. I little more elbow room, and small kitchenette, would be nice for cross-country drives. It more space that you probably need, but you could also use it to haul toys!
