You know, the OP has it easy with 3 kids......I had 4, and we went every where with a typical Crew cab pickup! Burbs were too dang expensive for what one gets etc. Same with the Excursion when they were out. A van with a Quigly conversion was less than a Burb! But more than my two CC pickumups!
So where were we here. oh yeah, tow ratings. My 96 CC with a 5sp and 6.5td did a pretty good job towing a 12K trailer, only real issue was the 185 hp. My 2000 C2500 with a 255hp Vortec 350 does a bit better with the same trailer, and my 05 dmax one heck of a lot better, ie faster up hills etc. From an actual handling standpoint, all three do just fine! Other than the C3500 being as it is a short WB vs the CC's, it does have the head lights reasonably pointing to the sky. That would be a BIG issue with a burb over a CC pickup! Especially with 1200-1400 lbs of HW as my equipment trailer has. My TT only had 650-700 lbs. So a ED was not even needed.
Just my 02......oh, any body remember when the only choice was a station wagon? or a reg cab pickup? 4 across the bench!
