Some gas engines have more torque then some diesel engines do.
Which ones?
The Chevy 8.1L gas has anywhere from 455 to 490 pound feet.
The 6.2L diesel makes 257 pound feet.
The 5.9 Cummins didn't break 460 pound feet until 2001.
Early Ford 7.3L topped out at 388 pound feet.
Just a few examples.
OP, blanket statements and rules of thumb are generally not the best way to select a truck. I used my 2001 Chevy dually with 8.1L and Allison automatic to tow over 10,000 pounds quite often and it did an outstanding job.
