Tow capacity is a number that manufacturers say the vehicle can pull behind it. Key word is "behind", like a sled.
With a travel trailer, 10 - 15 percent of your loaded trailer weight, is being carried by the truck, not pulled behind.
Other areas where the 1500 may be lacking, are soft suspension, and passenger "P" rated tires.
