Towing a Honda fit

towing laws can vary from state to state. your state may not require brakes on the toad but I think one is foolish to not have brakes and a breakaway system . does the owner's manual give instructions for towing one?

The trick is that toad is not a trailer, so with low number of them on streets, the law forgot about them.
You will get thousands of conflicting answers, but regardless if law require brakes, or not, I would spend the money for brake system.
Than I have to ask why?
The whole purpose of TC is that you can drop it at destination and use truck for sightseeing.

I'm retiring and moving to another state. Cost to ship the car is $1300~$1800.

Silly to even consider towing without supplemental brakes. An accident without them is going to cost you a whole lot more than $1300 - 1800.

I’d just put it on a trailer or tow dolly. If you don’t have one, rent one.

1-way rental for car dolly is probably 4-figure as well.
Don't you have significant other that can drive the car?
By the time you get bracket, lights and brakes, it will get cheaper to ship it.
Or sell it locally and than buy another one at destination.
On other hand - people have been pulling toads with no brakes for decades.
2400lb no brakes car behind 12,000 TC unit is not that big deal.
When I was trailer-shopping in Nebraska - local dealer offered me new 7k equipment hauler with no brakes. That was years ago, so I wonder if the law have changed.

Dont know where your at or how far moving. I can rent a UHAUL tow dolly for under $400, from coast of Ca to N.Y.,Ny.
Id rather use a trailer (w/brakes) under $800 but T/Ds cheaper. Depends how far. Also depends on whats available local.
