Those numbers have been posted on this forum over and over from folks that have weighed their trailers, 5ers, and MHs after packing them. I know, it seems incredible that you could pack so much stuff in a trailer, but consider tools, chocks, jack, cords/hoses, BBQ and charcoal, utensils, dishes/pots/pans, bedding, food, clothes, beverages, toiletries, towels, books, DVDs, etc etc etc.
Last time I weighed I was at 6900 dry and 8500 packed with a 1/2 tank of water, so about 1500 lbs of stuff. Admittedly we pack heavy with the Honda gen, crock pot, etc. We also don't load anything in the truck, 100% of what we bring goes in the trailer. The bigger the trailer, the more room you have for stuff....
I said the same thing....no way do I have 1000 lbs of stuff in the trailer....then I weighed it LOL. I'm probably due to get it weighed again.
There are variables including how long you are going to be gone, whether 2 weeks or just a weekend, time of year, destination and activities, etc. I used to go to the beach for the weekend with 2 pairs of shorts a bathing suit and a couple T shirts. Head up to the mountains and include jeans, hiking boots, sweatshirts, etc. If everyone brings and extra 25 lbs of clothes, there is 100 lbs right there.
Some of the "lite" trailers only give you 600-700 lbs of net carrying capacity, folks load them up and then complain about blowouts on cheap Chinese tires. Many are overloaded and don't know it.
I give you credit, it takes discipline to leave town with only 400 lbs of stuff!
