If it were me I'd contact Toyota (factory) directly and ask them to detail the differences between the trail model and the one you're looking at. Explain that you are interested in upgrading the one you are looking at to give it the capabilities the Trail model has. No one knows the product better than the people who designed and built it. I bet they'd answer your question definitively.
