Any highway I've been on that has a speed limit over 65 mph also has multiple lanes.. In those cases, I'll just ride in the 'slow' lane at 60 or whatever mph I'm comfortable with and enjoy the ride.. :)
Whoever wants to go faster than me, can pass on my left side, because I stay in the right lane and hold my speed, doing what I'm supposed to be doing.. :)
When there are 3 or more lanes, I still hug the right (slow) lane, as I can deal with inept merging drivers more than I can deal with running in the middle lane (the whole time) and having people pass on my right and left (and getting all pissed off).. Besides, I just think it's wrong to stay in the middle lane if you are not able to maintain the general flow of traffic in general..
If I run up on a slower vehicle while in the right lane, I change lanes and pass. If I see a merging driver that is going to meet up with me and I can move to the middle lane (or fast lane) with lots of room, I'll move lanes.
But usually, it's just best to let off the gas and let the inept merging driver merge ahead of me and then they figure out they can go faster once they get on the hwy and they are out of my way.. :)
Yes, merging vehicles are the worst and most don't have a clue on how to merge onto a hwy, but I've just learned to be patient and ignore the fact they don't use their blinker or common sense, because they are just dumb asses and I get back to enjoying the trip once I comment on their actions.. :)
Yeah, I probably piss some people off too... But, I feel I give those inept drivers more slack then most, so it all works out.. :)

You drive EXACTLY LIKE I DO TOO :B
There are a lot of reasons, but some of mine are:
1. I'm in no hurry and that is what the far right lane is for. With all the "pit stops" and generally at least one fuel stop my average speed won't change my ETA by more than 15 to 30 min if my freeway speed is 60 or 70/75. I could care less who whizzes by me to the left going whatever ridiculous speed they think they need to go.
2. I like to hug the right side of the far right lane since that is where the widest shoulder usually is and that not only reduces the semi bow wave effect, but should something happen I have room to go further right w/o either running into another vehicle or off the pavement and into the weeds so to speak. I don't even like to get into one of the more middle lanes around metro areas to avoid all the mergers since I now have to watch vehicles overtaking me ON BOTH SIDES and the chance of them most likely with their head buried in a cell phone is higher that they might "wander" over their line into my lane and I might not have room to even get out of their way if blocked on the other side of my lane of travel.
3. Traveling at 60mph not only helps gas mileage, but is also where my 7.3 is at 2K best rpms.
4. To me 60mph is the most comfortable speed and I just feel above that makes things happen that much faster should MR. MURPHY come a callin'.
5. I'm a risk taker I guess and have no problems running the dreaded CHINA BOMB ST TIRES and just feel 60mph is the max speed for overall reliability for those type of tires.
