I don't know if Connecticut still has 55mph for trailers - I know we used to near some of the cities, but I don't recall seeing the sign recently.
I am also in the 67-68mph club.
I was always taught that with 3 (or more) lanes, the middle lane is the cruising lane, and passing on the right is allowed. If I am in the middle lane and see a large truck coming up behind me, I'll move over to let him past - with 3 lanes, many times trucks are not allowed in the far left. I don't see any need to make a vehicle larger than me maneuver if it is simpler for me to move over. I've been driving long enough now that I see truckers as being less knowledgeable about what used to be highway etiquette (or at least less willing to use it), and I think they are almost worse than car drivers when it comes to using a cell phone while driving.
I hate being in the right lane in city areas, as I am always slowing (or sometimes speeding up) for people mindlessly merging onto the highway.
Back to the topic... as I said, I like 67-68mph. I have friends who, after buying a new TT, told me how well it towed at almost 80mph. Rock solid. I mentioned the tires being rated for only 65mph, and their eyes widened. They wouldn't believe me until they looked for themselves. Also, one friend in particular complained about fuel mileage while towing (with a diesel). I mentioned about trying to tow below 70mph for better fuel economy. He scoffed, but one trip he did try towing at 65mph and was shocked at how much better fuel economy he got.
It was saving money on fuel that finally has got him towing at what I consider a much safer speed - whatever works!
