Actually, in most cases he's right. Most trailer tires are not rated to go that fast. Just because you feel comfortable flying down the interstate doesn't mean that all hell can't break out in a flash. Comfort to disaster can happen in a blink of an eye.
And in some states, that speed is also illegal and will get you a big ticket.
