On a side note I find threads like this funny. I remember my dad telling me it's crazy to tow at anything more than 55 MPH. That was in 1970. Guess what? In 1970 it probably was crazy to tow at anything more than 55 MPH. Think of the equipment they had back then!
Fast forward 40 something years. Equipment is light years ahead of the stuff we towed with back then. Yes it is that much better! Better tires, better engines, better brakes, better EVERYTHING.
Tires now come from China, brakes have no asbestos, spring shackles are thinner and bearings come from China. You have got to be kidding, these things are becoming dangerously cheap.
Yes, trucks have improved in many ways, but not trailers.
That's just silly.
With ABS and airbags I'm also safer now than ever.
You are correct, brakes have no asbestos. Asbestos off gassed bad and the new ones with ceramic don't. New is much safer.
Spring shackles are thinner. So what? Lighter brakes better and tows faster.
Bearings are made in China. I wouldn't know. Mine are all US made Timken and I have never had a bearing problem in my life.
I can out brake; out power, and out comfort of any era gone bye. Anybody that say's that statement is wrong is out of touch or just plain lost in the 70's haze. :B
