If I am running my GPS (following route, not just displaying map), it logs my route, speed, elevation and I can play that back.
How accurate is GPS? I know for a FACT that the GPS in my cruiser (which is a VERY expensive unit and one of the most accurate we could buy at the time) is accurate within something like 80 feet. Being off by 80 feet at any point in time could seriously skew the numbers. As a result, speeds measured by GPS units are not certified in courts of Maryland. Might be different in your jurisdiction, but it is no where near exact enough to be entered into evidence as fact in Maryland.
Sorry, I was not preparing for court, just commenting that there might be a record (as opposed to driver looking at speedometer) in some cases since some GPSs (just my personal experience) can record trips. I did not recall this occurring in Maryland, sorry. Sorry your GPS is so inaccurate, did not mean to upset you. Mine is cheap and works great, shows me very close in location, speed is spot on with speedometer which I have checked over 5 mile certified stretch. I know there are hot rod speedometers you can buy that work on GPS only and are legal, so some units work just fine. Again, very sorry to upset you, have a nice day.
