Towing above 65

Basically it's the old adage of just because others do it doesn't mean you should!

You could probably tow at 95 if you wanted to. All depends on how safe you want to be and how much you care about your family.

BUT can you stop quickly in a safe manner or correct your trailer if it starts to swing at higher speeds? NO.

I full time and I can't tell you how many TT's I've seen flying past me and then down the road finding them jack knifed. Truck and trailer on their sides crashed into a guard rail or upside down in the ditch along side the road.:(

All "young speedster" scolding aside, there are times when running up to 70-75 is needed and I've wondered the same thing. I've done it for short periods and everything feels just fine with my setup. Keeping in mind my setup is a newer 3/4 ton truck with a newer TT (both less than 3 years old). Good tires on all, PSI checked recently, bearings on the TT packed, etc, etc. In general I feel best towing at 60-65 on the interstate.

The "short periods" I describe are usually things like getting around a pack of 18-wheelers and not wanting to hog the fast lane. Honestly, I've never taken my TT on a long interstate trip. I'd have to imagine moving along at a consistent 70mph wouldn't be out of the question. I think a lot depends on your equipment (tires, tires... did I mention tires? :)) and the terrain.

:) Hi, I like to go with the flow of traffic and 65 MPH is good enough for me. I have towed faster, but for somewhat short distances. I have towed at 70 MPH and even 75 MPH. At 75 MPH, it is for very short distances and at 70, sometimes it's just a creep up speed and then I slow down. I like 65 MPH.

The two blowouts I've had were after continuous cruising at 45~50.
Of course those were with Carlisle's.

Interesting. Do most other states not have a separate speed limit for trailers? Most places here it's 55. Decent ticket if the CHiPies are of the mind.

I wouldn't. Bear in mind that you have to get that 75 mph rig stopped and in an emergency you couldn't do it. This question has been around the block a zillion times and the majority have seemed to agree that 60 - 65 is the best and safest. If you feel that strongly about 75, wish you well and hope you and the family stay safe....also others alongside you.

Seen a lot of stupid out on the hwys......but folks can do what they want.

I drive at speeds I like. I'm retired, don't HAVE to be anywhere at a specific time and really don't care.

Besides I use secondary/backroads as much as possible.

I usually set the cruise between 60-65mph stay in the right lane and just enjoy the ride.. Half the fun for me is getting to our destination..

The new Carlile's (Radial Trail RH) have sizes that are rated in the 70s (vrs 65)

Personally I don't go that fast as fuel economy suxs
