Adjust the trailer's brakes. You have to crawl under the trailer for this. If you don't already know how, do a search for info. Then adjust the brake controller. It should feel almost as if it's not back there and stop smoothly behind the tow vehicle.
The best things you can learn is to do brakes and bearings. As you do your bearings you can visually check the brakes.
