I guess it depends on the hitch that you have now. I use a 2 1/2 x 18 inch extension with my stock Ford hitch.
On the other hand, consider the attachment for the rear tiedowns. My tiedowns extend below the hitch. It hasn't been a problem for the past 2 years, but it seems low. The advantage of the Torklift hitch is the mount for the rear tiedowns is more integrated.
