OP, yes bigger truck will handle load much better (obviously). A gasser will not get appreciably better mileage. A diesel will. Any of the trucks from your current truck on up is sufficient for the trailer. No truck will stop sway. And you do not need a bigger truck than you have.
Dig into the sway issue more. You’re new to this, so define what’s going on.
Actual “sway” is uncontrollable movement above a certain speed and is usually a function of loading, tongue weight and how the trailer is loaded front to rear (either permanent fixtures or gear).
Trailers do wiggle around and get pushed around though. Generally. Proper weight on the tongue, proper weight on the truck and sway control can get rid of the wiggles.
Figure that part out first imo before jumping into a new truck. Because it likely isn’t the truck but may be how you have it set up.
But a new diesel will be absolutely luxurious for towing that little trailer. Both are solid choices but I personally would not get a Ram until the 8 speed comes out.
