This is me eating my words....I'm convinced that my earlier post was wrong, wrong, wrong. You guys really do know your stuff- I had NO IDEA about the Panther frame history/use etc.
Thanks!
I'd change my earlier post, but intend to leave it as is- proof positive that sometimes minds can be changed when facts are presented along with opinions.
Go for it, O.P., and please (continue to!) ignore my earlier ignorant post.
No worries at all Francesca, my Kia has a 1650 lb tow rating. I am confident that its rating should not be exceeded. I think most cars your advice would be accurate. However with a panther car it's a totally different story. I think it was Bryan who said that the ratings changed down when Ford went with a space saver spare. This is factually accurate.
I believe that the best Panther towing platform was the Mercury Marauder back in 03-04. Those were sweet powerful cars. 300 hp 315 ish lb ft of tq, with 3.55 rear axle ratio and an aluminum driveshaft. Plus a nice handling package. Ahh yes. That baby would be the perfect tow vehicle for a mid sized aerodynamic travel trailer.
Thanks!
