Our hybrid caught fire and was a total loss. I'm looking at replacing it with something smaller and easier to tow. I like the amenities in the high walls, but since they are higher I'm wondering if this makes them much more difficult to tow. It looks like they are as tall as our Envoy. We were getting 9mpg towing our hybrid and I'd wished I'd had more power. Anyone tow a HW with a similar SUV?

When I had our Suburban 8.1L I got the same mileage towing as around town. If your engine is less powerful it stands to reason that towing a high wall will decrease the mileage by a mile or two. You do drive 55 mph, right?

Morning Robmoo....If a highwall is anything like a tent trailer I personally wouldn't go that route. We had a nice tent trailer for about 4 years and every time we had to set that up in the rain (or high wind) I swore it was going. We enjoyed the ease of towing it for sure, but it was not without it's draw backs. We went to a TT back in the mid-80's and have stayed with that type of unit ever since. I recently wanted to go with a 5th wheel, but my hub is right. With alllllllllll the *stuff* we take with us (sans the Dung Beetle nickname) a bumper pull allows us to fill the truck canopy up with necessary items. Generators, wheelchair... dog pens... bbq.. etc. We have not mastered the art of traveling light... LOLSorry about your fire. That had to be a huge event. Having lost our home to a fire in 2003 I feel your pain. .Good luck, also for security reasons we like something that locks up tight. It's a crazy world out there....

I don't think any trailer is perfect. they ALL have their "drawbacks".On a nice summer night with all the screens open on my pup looking at stars and listening to nature then seeing the sunrise in the morning, to me stuck in a solid side 4 wall trailer is a huge drawback to my camping.I have camped over 100 nights in the past few years and have set up in the rain once.To the OP, a Highwall will be slightly above your envoy but I can't see any issues with towing one. They are just as heavy though so don't expect a huge power gain. The I6 has a bunch of torque. I am surprised you are not happy with its performance. As has been said slow is the key. 55-65mph is your range and you should always have good power.As far as fuel eco....forget about it.it is still going to suckgoodluck

We hauled a Starcraft 2101 Pup for 2 years with our Trailblazer(same motor as yours) and got 18 mpg. When we started hauling the Hybrid, it dropped to 11 mpg at best. The Pup was about a foot lower than the TV. Wind resistance really kills the gas mileage.

18mpg wouldn't be bad. We had all the set up time with the hybrid. I don't think a pup would take much more. I remember having to unfold the pup to pack being a pain, but there are trade offs to every camper. I'm going to keep an eye out on Craig's list and plan on probably not buying anything until late November. I'd like to pick up a large pup for around 3-4k. I've seen some HW pups for $4500-5500 for 2004ish year models. If these owners aren't able to sell by late November perhaps they'll be willing to deal.Fun Town in Waco has a 2006 Rhino for $5500. I see the owner actually added a class 1 hitch to the back of it.

I tow our Rockwood HW 277 (High Wall) with my wifes KIA Sedona Mini Van. We get 18 miles to the gallon towing at 55 mph (always). Does really good, I also cannot see too much behind me, but as it was said in Cannon Ball Run (I think), italian accent "What is a behind me is not important". :C

I tow my Flagstaff highwall with a Toyota Highlander. The profile of hte camper sits just even with the top of my highlander, and the A/C unit sticks up above the top. It is definitely bigger than a regular popup, but it still tows very easily with my SUV. I get 17-19 MPG towing.

Oh I love it, just don't like calling it that since no axle was flipped in the raising of this PUP.

Where we come from a"flipped axel" is a necessity. ID campers (and elk hunters) don't see pavement with their RV/TTs very often...LOL I'd hate to leave a black water tank on a BOULDER.

We bought a Flagstaff HW from Western Campers this summer. The problem that we ran into was just the fact of there being so few high wall campers available on the used market. At the price point of a new, alot of people will go with a hybrid or travel trailer.

Having towed a standard height PUP and high wall PUP, there are definitely some differences. I cannot see over or around the high wall whereas I could use my rear and side mirrors on the standard height. Only the A/C blocked any views at that time.

Now, with HW, I have to use mirror extensions and see nothing but white paneling when looking at the rear view mirror.

If your TV is the same one from towing the HTT, you may like it again. As BigBaron mentioned, my HW PUP is taller than the profile of my 4Runner (thank goodness it's a V8). I took a hit on gas mileage due to more wind resistance and nearly 1,000 pounds heavier than my first PUP.

But I must say - it is WELL worth it for the major and minor differences. I pretty much have most all of the features of an HTT except overhead cabinets and a tub. I have more storage capacity than I have stuff.

And nicely enough, it fits in my garage. Anyway, a HW is quite a viable option. You're already familiar with canvas/vinyl bunks. You just have to add some cranking up and down, depending on the options and floor plan.

we just traded in our Fleetwood Sequoia for the smallest Trailmanor. Both great, and both easy to tow. We have a V8 4Runner.

Highwalls make a big difference in PUPs. The kitchens are so much better.
