a travel trailer is a lever with the fulcrum almost centered .
the weight behind the tt axle is uncontrolled weight .
the weight in front of the tt axle is controlled weight .
if the percentage of the uncontrolled weight is too high you have trailer sway caused by wind gusts and class 8 trucks going by .
the remedy is to increase the percent of controlled weight .
that requires a heavier tongue weight and that requires a higher payload pickup .
if the tow vehicle does not have adequate payload to accept the heavy tongue weight trailer sway may be too much .
the option is a shorter Lever , or a lighter LEVER , or a pickup with high payload capacity to accept a heavy tongue weight .
if going to a very long LEVER , one should consider a Heavy duty pickup with the ability to accept a very heavy tongue weight .
Backing is not the issue .
Towing at highway speeds with wind gusts is a bigger concern .
Long trailer is happier with an HD pickup .
