Towing the cmper with E350?

I have a 15 year old truck. My wife and I are talking about replacing it with something little newer and lower mileage. Most importantly, we want something with side curtain air bags to protect our kids.

As we started to look for another newer super duty trucks or other heavy duty trucks, the used one are so expensive and it is very hard to find non diesel heavy duty truck that was not owned by a company or used as a work truck. If there is a 2013 F250 gas truck with 60k miles, its still worth over 30K. :(

I saw several few years old E350 for like around $15k - $18K. Wow, that is a lot cheaper than trucks. E350 has GVWR of 8,900 pounds and it can tow up to 7,400 pounds. Plenty for my camper as long I don't load it to the max weight which is 7,650 pounds. My current truck can only two up to 7,500 pounds anyway.

So, am I being stupid to consider E350?

  • Should be a great choice!

IMHO...I would choose a 12 passenger version. The rear overhang is less and should be a bit more stable towing.

I have a lot of experience with the newer E350 and the newer 5.4 is very stout compared to my old 5.4 in my 97 F150...should do very well with your camper.

    Thanks!

  • The way used trucks are priced these days, new makes better financial sense. I can't really advise you on the van but I would test drive one before you give it too much thought. Sitting on top of that front axle can make for a real choppy ride on freeway expansion joints.
  • I don't tow but, I have read on the forum several times the E350 is a good choice for towing.
    If you don't need a 4x4 I think it's an excellent choice.
You'll save money over a truck and can haul a lot of stuff if you're not towing. JMO
