Towing Tires for 20" wheel

I have a 2012 F150 FX2 with the Eco Boost and 3.73 rear end. I am trying to find higher load rated tires. Between Americas Tire and Tirerack.com the best I can come up with is XL rated tires, nothing in the D-E range. Any suggestions on where to look?
  • I have Hankook DynaPro 20"(275/55R20) tires on my truck and they are available in LR E. Got them at Discount Tire. their website does not show LR E, but the in store computer has them.
  • Don't know if they will work for your F150. I have Michelin LTX A/T2 LT275/65R20 E rated for 3,750 lbs on my 2012 F350.
  • Thank you both for the feedback. It appears that both are options through different retailers (the Michelins are made in my tire size (275/55R20) just as the Hankooks are.

The guy on the phone at the first retailer tried to convince me that the Pirellis that are on it now are sufficient for towing heavy loads and I didn't need anything heavier (he also had those Pirellis on special right now and could put them on this afternoon for me!)

I have the Firestone Transforce 285/60/R20E. The tire has a 3640lb load rating. The tire is OEM on the 2014 RAM 2500 20" wheel option.

  • I had a 2" level kit on my 2010 F-150 FX4. With the level kit I was able to fit 275/65R20. However, I believe members on the ford-truck forum noted that they could fit 305/55R20's on there without a leveling kit. They are only 1" taller. And I believe the factory rim is just barely in tolerance for the width(8.5").
  • My Previous truck was a 2011 F150 FXA Screw/6.5 with the 20's, I upgraded to Hankook ATM RF10's in LT285/55R20E1, right out of the gate and those tires are still going after 50000km's on it (father inlaw has my old truck now. The towing experience was much improved with those tires too.

  • I just put these on my 2012 2500HD Toyo Open Country Extremes 295/55/20 max load capacity of 3400 lbs..really quite with good road manners for a AT tire.
