Towing: Wildcat 26BHS with Nissan Armada

We're looking at purchasing a 2014 Wildcat Maxx 26BHS. I'm wondering if this trailer is too heavy for the Armada to pull? The armada is rated at 10,000/1,000 according to the manual and sticker, but the websites and forums report 9,100/910.

The dry weight is 6200lbs with a hitch weight of 705lbs. We live in the Rockies so I'm concerned with the weight and grades of the mountain passes we will be traveling through. I'm planning on using the Equalizer 10k hitch. I believe I'm well within the recommended towing capacity, but wanted to hear from the experts here. I've spoken to a few dealers and they've all said I'm fine, but know they just want to make a sale. I want to be safe on the open roads. I figure we will be between 7k and 7.5k loaded (we would leave the water tank close to empty until close to the destination). More than anything I'm concerned about the hitch weight when loaded. The other item I should mention is that the GVWR is a whopping 10,865lbs on this TT (something I'll never even come close to, but thought I should mention it). I believe the size is okay as I've seen a lot of Armada users with 29' trailers (some even with 32'+).

Thanks.

  • Thanks, guys.

Here is what I've got on the sticker.

    GVWR: 7299
    GAWR FR: 3699
    GAWR RR: 4299

Combined weight of occupants should never exceed: 1433lbs

I pulled the information below off of a website:

    Weight Information
    Curb Weight 5,841 lbs
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating 7,299 lbs
    Max Payload 1,458 lbs

I've got a total of 5 occupants. The total weight of the occupants is less than 600lbs.
  • What is the payload capacity of the Armada and how many passengers are you carrying.
  • You may be ok but you're really going to have to pay attention to the weights. Bumpy is right that you'll be more in the range of 7500-8000lbs. That's a heavy TT for 26'. At that weight you'll be pushing 1k of tongue weight. Add in the weight of the hitch and you'll be very close, or over, the reciever rating.

You also don't mention what your payload capacity is or what you plan on carrying in the Armada. Once you add in your passengers do you have enough payload capacity left for 1000lbs of tongue weight?
  • I think you will be closer to 8K loaded than 7. IMHO you are right to ignore that the GVWR exceeds your capacity as you are being careful not to load it to that.
