As long as it is in good maintained shaper it will do fine with the Aliner. I had a 95 Explorer 4dr with the old 4.0L and towed an Award TT that weighed almost 5k lbs! the Explorer 4.0 with factory tow pkg has a 5k lb tow rating. and I think 7klbs with the V-8.
