Towing with a 2004 Explorer Sport Trac

Thanks, old wizard. I believe those specs are for a bumper hitch but can be equipped with a 2inch receiver attached to the frame and then can tow the 5300 lbs.From the same page;
3,500-lb. towing capacity
with standard rear bumper

Can be equipped to tow
trailers up to 5,300 lbs.
I really just want to hear from those who are or have towed with this truck. But thanks for your concern.

According to the 2004 Ford Towing Guide, page 8 without the factory trailer towing option you are limited to 3,500. With the V8 and the factory trailer towing option, the limit is 5,300.

We had a very similar Explorer///same year. We towed a Fleetwood Sea Pine pop up for 3 years, many miles and many nights of camping. Worked great.
