In 1988 I bought a new GMC Safari minivan. It was rear wheel drive, had a 4.3 L V6 engine, 3.73 rear axle and towing package. I first used it to tow a popup camper. I then bought a 1993 22 ft Sandpiper travel trailer. A year later I traded the Sandpiper for a 1994 26 ft Dutchmen travel trailer. The minvan towed the Sandpiper pretty good but the Dutchmen was harder to tow. I believe 2005 was the last year GMC and Chevy (named Astro by Chevy) built those vans. As others have said you might want to look into a small SUV vehicle.
The Safari/Astro were rated to tow 5800 lbs (RWD) or 5400 lbs (AWD). A current Caravan is rated at 3800 with the unbelievably rare tow package, and 1500 lbs without. There's really no comparison. Current FWD vans really aren't rated to tow more than a small tent trailer.
