If wondering, I have a V6 mini-van (with over sized engine) and sometimes tow a 2,600 "wet weight") 16.5' OB boat. I tow it on no hills, short distances and with wife + 2 kids in the vehicle. Nothing else inside the mini-van. Van pulls easy (with its extra large engine and in 3 gear) but I wouldn't want to pull more weight. Especially for long hauls, up/down hills and/or more stuff inside the vehicle.
Hope this helps in your mini-van towing research...
that boat tows a lot easier than a TT.

Yes Agreed. Now add hills, add loaded vehicle and add towing on hot temp day and that boat has same towing stress as a TT.
If I pulled a TT trailer "with" 5 people in my vehicle, ""also" battling wind drag, "also" going up hills, "also" on a hot temp day, my mini-van being that over stressed would break. re: Blow transmission, blow wheel bearings, blow head gasket, blow water pump.
Why "over stress" a vehicle just because some car dealer says it should work. re: Pulling a 3,198 lbs wind wall TT because my vehicle's manual (excluding its fine print) states that it should?
Always remember it isn't always the object in question. It's the wind and hills that push towing stresses over the top….
Like I stated above, I wouldn't want to pull more then 2,600 lbs with my mini-van (due to many towing stresses - that folks ignore)….
