I see no reason to recommend the 5.4L for RVing in a Super Duty. The V10 offered in the same years offered far more power with the same fuel economy. Save the 5.4L for local work, landscaping and snow plows.
I highly recommend GM's 6.0L/6-spd trans combo. I've owed one for 2 years. It has been extremely reliable and low service cost for over 12 years! GM sells more gas HD trucks than Ram/Ford. Why? Inexpensive to own and maintain.
I do not understand your value/priority of having a close/local dealer. You may never need to visit it yet you have to drive the truck every day. Get the one you like best!
