OK, I looked up where you are located. Wind wind and more wind to contend with and the Tehachapi. Do you go down to Bakersfield and back up the Tehachapi?
You are within 2 hours of the the highest and lowest points in conterminous United States. Mt. Whitney 14,494 Death Valley –282. At 2289 you are neither low or high. The Tehachapi is just under 4K high. Bakersfield in 404 feet above sea level.
The 5.4 will be weak in a 40-50 MPH head wind. I am thinking you will not be happy with the small V8!
