Lots of good information already. Here's my experience.
I have a 2009 F150 4X4 with the 5.4. I have 3.31 rear end gears and I live in East Tennessee. Lots of hills here. I pull a 22' TT and I'm very happy with my set up. 11 MPG towing and 18 without the trailer. While looking for your truck remember that these F150s could be ordered with lots of options that change the towing abilities. Not all F150s are created equal! There were 3 different packages related to towing. The easiest quick test on the lot is to raise the hood. If there is an additional transmission cooler in front of the radiator your looking at a truck with one of two towing packages and your on the right track. If this cooler is not there you'r looking at a standard F150. Do your homework and you will be able to make an educated decision. My 5.4 has all the horse power and torque I have ever needed. And I have never felt that I had to strain the truck. Good luck.
