@OP, Ken, is that you? I have recently purchased a super clean 2004 F-250SD Super cab short bed 4x4 with a V-10. I would definitely recommend it over the 5.4. While I do not own an RV, I occasionally tow cars on open trailers, around 7,000 lbs. max., and no frontal drag to speak of. The V-10 is overkill for my needs, but what an awesome truck it is. Great off-road, too. My vote would certainly be for the 6.8. Maybe you can locate a Ram 2500 V-10 in excellent condition. Gets you away from the dually, and still has the power you will be looking for. I hear you about the dealership being far away, though. Hunter Dodge is a good one. Better to have too much power than to be right at an engine's upper limits while towing.
