My question might be, do you really need 24" of extension? Maybe 12 or 18" might be all you need and yes, it does make a big difference. Keep it as short as you can. One thing I have on my trailer is a swing arm at the front. I can put the trailer with the boat on it into the shop, swing the front of the trailer back on itself, and close the shop door. This makes the trailer tongue about a foot longer that a normal size trailer for the 16.5 boat I have. You can have it fitted afterwards to your trailer at a boat shop. Extending the trailer tongue is a much better option than extending the truck with an extension in the receiver.
