You are ignoring the time to get from 0 MPH to 55 MPH to have a prayer of merging with traffic. In many areas it is 200 feet or less from the cloverleaf on ramp to being on the highway with semi's and if your truck and trailer are only doing 35 MPH when you have to merge you will be in trouble and sooner or later it could become deadly.
There is a reason that Ram, Ford, and GM tow rates its gas powered pickups 12,800 lbs. or less with 3.73 gears. Even then they have not been conforming to the SAE J2807 testing procedure where trucks have to perform with their rated tow loads.
The 1998 Chevy Tahoe I owned was rated to tow over 7,000 lbs. but in reality with a 3200 lbs. boat and trailer load and 4.10 gears it was less than optimum in terms of the distance required to get up to 55 MPH to merge with freeway traffic and the distance required to come to a stop if there was any problem with the trailer's brakes (which was not at all unusual with a trailer that would get immersed into salt water).
