You are ignoring the time to get from 0 MPH to 55 MPH to have a prayer of merging with traffic. In many areas it is 200 feet or less from the cloverleaf on ramp to being on the highway with semi's and if your truck and trailer are only doing 35 MPH when you have to merge you will be in trouble and sooner or later it could become deadly.
WOW ! I wonder how all the 18 wheelers merge :S
With my loaded truck at 78000 to 79000 lbs on flat ground it will take me at least a half mile to get up to 65 mph. If I'm pulling a hill well getting on th e interstate I may not even get to 65 mph till I start down the other side.
And my truck has a 450 hp DD13 with a 10 od speed and 3.58 rears.
I have driven trucks with 10 speed were the top gear was 1:1 and they had 2.94 rears.
