I found the answer- incase anyone is still looking.
The shank portion of WD hitches do not have a standard length. They range from 12" to 18". I purchased a new shank to replace my existing one, rather than use an extension.
The extensions are de-rated due to the weld point. The extended shanks do not have the weld point and are rated the same.
