Just started running a TPMS and I am a bit surprised at the increase in rear tire psi while underway. I would like to hear what others with similar SRW rigs are seeing.SRW, running 296-75-16 rated at 3950# (Scale weights of rig are under this). Rear tires set at 80pi cold. Did a quick 600 mi round trip this weekend, while underway psi climbed up to 97 psi. That is a good 20% increase from cold psi. As I have never run TPMS before, I don’t know if this is “normal” for SRW hauling heavy TC. I expected to see some increase in psi as tires heated up, was not expecting 20%.Front tires increased only ~ 10%, but on our rig the TC is weight neutral on front axle.Thx, Bill

With my 15 Ram 3500 only carrying 2,400#, I've seen my pressure go from 80psi to mid 90s. Back when I had my 04 Ram 3500 SRW hauling a 35' FW with a 1,600# pin weight, I left in the cool 65* morning with my tires at 80psi. After 5 hours of towing and the temps climbing to almost 100*, my PSI climbed to about 106psi with the tires measuring 115*.Just remember, never lower the PSI due to the increase from traveling. The PSI is to be checked when the tires are cold which means with less than 1 mile and before the sun shines on them.

The stock rear tires on our 2016 Ram 2500HD set cold at 80 psi run about 87 psi with a 2400 lb (loaded) Adventurer 80RB on board. This was observed traveling from Georgia to western Canada from mid May till early July. This was determined by the stock onboard EVIC readings.

Funny this thread came up, I'm always watching mine and always wondered what others see. My camper is 3,200 loaded on my SRW 2500 Sierra, my tires normally climb from 80 to the upper 80's or low 90's. Making a cold reading can really be odd to, when the temp drop to the 30's my tires are less than 80 psi cold, when in the 50's-60's in the morning they are around 80. You can also see a few pounds difference in the tire facing the sun in the afternoon.

Have new Michelin 295/70/18's (4080 lb. load rating) on our 3500 SRW. When loaded close to the RAWR the rear tires typically hover between 90-97 PSI while driving in ambient temps of 70-95 degrees (80 PSI at 7am or so before driving; ambient 60-65 deg). When temps eventually hit 105-110 degrees in the next month or so I suspect the rear tire pressure will easily surpass 100 PSI.

Pressure in my rear tires jumps from 80 up to 95 or so on a hot day running at highway speeds of about 65 mph. I set about 70 psi on the fronts and pressure jump to about 80 or so.

Bill, mine PSI climb also.

I run my front tires at 80psi (I think my sticker says 75 empty.)
than I watch the rear tire PSI raise the same % as the front tires. if the rear PSI climbs a larger % than front it is telling me there is more heat in the rear tires, and heat is caused by under inflation so I raise the rear PSI.
Most of the time I run with the tire PSI screen turned on. with Over 10K trucks they don't alert you when you loose pressure so that is my first defense. all the other gauges are also hooked to Id10T lights so might as well watch tires.

Thanks to all who responded. I am greatly relived. I expected some increase-5%-10%?

I did not expect to see psi climb to mid 90's.

Appears to be the norm.

TPMS; Just what I need-another gauge to worry about! Data overload.

because I have a conscious and think about safety I always look at weight numbers, but anytime I bring it up people call me "weight policy". But all the numbers I have seen show his truck has a GAWR rear of 7000 lbs.

bwlyon probably means 275/70/18 tires which have a max load rating of 3640. So max load for a SRW would be 7280. I don't even want to think about a load of 8700# running at 70-75 mph.

wow, 8700 lbs on rear axle? what is your Gross Axle weight rating on rear?
what is the carrying capacity marked on the tire? 3690 lbs?

Our 2015 SRW Ram 3500 with the stock 275/75/18” tires at 80psi cold will climb to mid 80s psi empty. When loaded to 8700 lbs on rear axle running with ambient temps in the 60s to 70s the tire pressure climbs to low to mid 90s psi with a high of 97psi. I cut this truck no slack and will run 70-75 mph with camper on truck on the interstates. So, in short, yes tire pressure will climb a good amount when the get heated up!

Too much moisture in pumped air.
That is why at some time nitrogen was advised.
I never had the pressure going up more than 10% and I drive in 120F, what gives >140F pavement temperatures.
But then I live in dry climates, use oilless compressor and only mid-day when it is drier.
Morning humidity usually triples.
