TPO Roofs

Got a quick question which I believe I already know the answer to but some of you have more experience with TPO roofs because you have them on your camper.

Went to look at the Grand Design 2150 yesterday. After looking it over I climbed the ladder on the back of the trailer to get a look at the roof. There were several areas where the roof material wasn't pull tight, like sagging.

Now IMO there shouldn't be any sagging. It should be as tight as a drum, am I correct.
  • TPO is vinyl not rubber so what makes you believe the roof membrane on this GD you looked at is in fact TPO? I took a brief look at the GD website and although I could have missed it I didn't see any mention of TPO. What you're reporting you did see is not uncommon with EPDM rubber membrane but it's hard to imagine how TPO could behave like this. :h
  • I don't think they stretch TPO, so you would expect to have dome high spots.

Yup, When we bought our KZ we had 3 to pick from. I picked the one that I could "see no evil" if you know what I mean. And it's been issue free after almost 2 years.

That's disappointing of GD. I expect better from them.

Maybe it was only this one trailer but there was other issues I didn't care for either.

  • Poor factory quality control. Inadequate dealer inspection prior to acceptance. IMO find a new dealer and manufacturer.
