We love Anza and stay there from time to time. We stay at the Palm Canyon campground, cheap and full hookups. No way would I camp in one of the washes. Lots of things to see if you drive a bit like slot canyons and beautiful areas like the OP posted.
That is the great thing about Anza Borrego, there are campgrounds with full hook ups, remote campgrounds, and full on boondocking possibilities.
