Trail Manor 3023 from 1997

I'm considering buying a 1997 Trail Manor. Could anyone please offer advice based upon familiarity with this make and vintage as to longevity, long-lasting reliability and functionality? Have yet to see it in person.
Thank you for your consideration.
  • I have had two new TrailManors, and am very happy with them. 2007 is a different animal, as it has been used for 8 years, and you have no idea if the owners maintained it, or not. If not, you could be in for a lot of repairs. If they did maintain it, it could be in wonderful shape.

Only way to know is to look at it. If you can see pictures before going to see it, it should appear to be almost new. If you see chips out of counters, rips, dents, etc., chances are that it was not maintained, and would be a pain. If it appears almost new, that is a possible indicator the previous owner took good care of the unit.

As with any trailer, how it was maintained directly affects its quality. TMs are normally built well, but all, as any trailer, seem to have issues upon delivery. My issues were minor, and easy to correct.

I love my TM, and don't plan on getting rid of it. It is easy to tow, good fuel economy while towing, and I can get it into places only a popup can go, which keeps most neighbors away (I boondock most of the time). :B

    Good luck!
  • Thanks all! Mr and Mrs Camper it sounds to me that you had a good Dealer that treated you right. Thanks so much for sharing your story.
  • We had the 2719 for a year with no issues at all and the year of the TT was 96, so it's right in the time frame you're looking at. The thing I loved was it's low profile so that it was basically in the Tow Vehicles slip stream and my gas mileage didn't drop very much.
  • From an engineering standpoint they are very well designed and made; at least the one we had back about 15 years ago was. There is no canvas to deteriorate which is one advantage.
  • We owned one many years ago and the dealer took it back from us in a swap for a regular TT. We were losing parts as we drove down the road. We had it returned and inspected and 11 nuts, bolts and piping were missing. They replaced everything. Our next trip about 2 weeks later we headed back up to northern FLA at a campground about 10 miles from the dealer. As we set up on a concrete site we heard a metal sound. We looked under the RV and found three bolts on the pad. As we tried to set it up the door bottom would not align with the top half and the front half had some issues with aligning to the bottom front. We called the dealer, told him where we were staying and he asked us to wait there and he would have a couple of maintenance workers out in less than 30 min.

In 20 minutes they arrived with a 33' Fleetwood Prowler Regal AX6 TT. They helped us empty the Trailmanor and move it to the Prowler. They also brought a flatbed to push up the now closed TM. Because we had to help them they were going to reimburse us for the weekend camping fees. They left and we set up the things in the TT. Monday was supposed to be our last day there but we received a call from the owner of the dealership and he asked us to consider adding some cash and we could exchange the TM for the TT.

We settled on an amount after my wife and I talked about it and we drove to their place and finalized the deal. We kept the Prowler for 12 years until 3 years ago when visiting family in Florida and due to Tropical Storm Debbie we had leakage and the insurance company totaled it.

We had spoken to many people on the TM forum and they had some issues with theirs and some were completely happy. I know the dealer stopped carrying the TM. I wouldn't suggest you agree to buying it without first inspecting it or having it inspected. Without knowing it's condition I'd try to find out it's maintenance history. Without those two things and my experience, I'd walk away. Good luck with whatever you decide.
