Very few TT have self-adjusting brakes. It's stupid. But Dexter and maybe other manufacturers make replacement self-adjusting brakes that work just fine. I've changed mine and highly recommend it.
EDIT: and Dexter's adjust when you hit the brakes in either direction.
MOST trailers do not have self adjusting brakes from factory so do not assume they are self adjusting..
Best bet is to remove the drums and inspect, verify if self adjusting or not.
Even if you do have self adjusting brakes do not DEPEND on them self adjusting for long. Just because they are supposed to adjust doesn't mean that they work perfectly all the time.
I have had automobiles with all four drum brakes and let me tell you that when the front brakes decided not to adjust YOU WOULD be pulled to one side or the other.
Trailers sit a lot during their life, the adjusters tend to RUST and stop adjusting, the star wheel wears down or the cable breaks.
People now days are plain getting lazy with EZ lube axles and self adjusting brakes.
There is no replacement for PHYSICALLY inspecting brakes and bearings.
It is not a hard or difficult thing to do, takes 10 minutes per wheel at the most and gives great satisfaction knowing everything behind the drum is correct.
