Trailer Insurance?

What type of insurance does everyone have for their travel trailers?

Thanks,

  • Walter,

Don't know whether or not you're retired or former military. Our rig is covered under our USAA auto policy and we have a separate renter's policy (we're full-timers) with USAA that covers our personal effects and the stuff we left in storage. If you are eligible, it's a great way to go.

  • We have to buy liability to obtain a plate courtesy of our government run insurance scam. We also carry collision and comprehensive, I believe we paid 65 dollars for the year which is quite reasonable. The trailer is stored at home but we are renting so no home owner policy, storage runs something like 13 dollars for 6 months.

I have a separate policy for my TT from State Farm.
It covers any damage to the camper while in storage.
Any damage to the camper and other property while being towed and liability
Liability while parked in a campsite.

I'm sure there are other aspects of the policy but the 3 above is what I was looking for.
X2 We have the same exact policy! My agent tells me they use NADA to estimate value of trailer, I have also supplied a list of interior items I wanted covered.
Not bad, its like $9 a month.
I have AAA for roadside premium that has RV towing up to 200 miles.

Us also, don't have the AAA as towing is part of our State Farm plan.
Our agent went to several RV dealer web sites that sell TM's and used their advertised price -vs - NADA which tends to be low for a TM

  • Is your insurance extremely cheap? I was quoted 45 a year for our new TT. I'm going to have them check it again.
  • You could search this Forum for `insurance' in the Travel Trailers section. We have Progressive.
  • Check out Good Sam's policy - good coverage; reasonable price; good service. We have been very pleased with what Good Sam offers - have their extended warranty plan as well and would not be without it.
  • Comprehensive and collision, $500 deductible with total loss to replace with brand new trailer up to $30,000 with no depreciation. This means in 5 years if my trailer is a total loss from an accident or fire, I will get $30k to towards a brand new trailer.

Liability while towing is covered under my tow vehicle's insurance and while parked under my homeowners insurance.

  • Ours is added to our Allstate plan, with the option to purchase replacement value coverage and when not in use, as in over the winter, we suspend the coverage. If anything happens to it at the house, the homeowner's covers it, also Allstate.
