I read this thread when it was first posted and decided not to respond but after reading all the replies I thought I would post mine.
I was not there; therefore I cannot tell you what I would do. I will tell you this. I do carry everywhere I go in the RV. If I thought my life was in danger then I would be firing.
If I saw someone stealing my kayak off of my Jeep in the middle of the night, would I shoot? Probably not but I would want to. Some say fire a warning shot, that means they now know you see them and the element of surprise is gone. If they are armed they will be firing at me, I doubt they give me a warning shot.
Back to this guy, if he thought his life was in danger then he had every right to shoot. Some people here are quick to judge. We do not know what he was thinking.
As far as being from MI, most people in the south mistakenly think everyone from the north are against guns just like most people in the north think people from the south don't wear shoes. Heck, most people I know have at least one pair.
