Not Chinese engineering--good old American capitalism. Maximize profit by spending the least they can get away with. The RV industry has become especially bad about this since its consolidation into a handful of huge corporations.
Isn't that the same as Chinese Engineering ?
Actually a little Chinese Engineering might be what is needed to get these American Engineering a swift kick in the head and cause a little chaos
Kinda like when Datsun, Nisson, Toyota showed up and Detroit had to change.

that is why american auto makers had to step up their game to compete with toyota, honda, nissan etc.
now american made mid level cars are as reliable as japan's
