Transmission Overheating

I have a 1996 F250 PSD, 223,000 miles on it, and I tow a 9000lb fifth wheel. Several years ago I added a torque converter lock up switch to use when on steep downgrades and the largest transmission cooler I could find. I've never had a problem with it, but coming home this year, the transmission temp began climbing when I flipped the switch on while descending a hill. When it approached 200 degrees, I turned the switch off for fear of damaging the transmission. Is there a problem, or potential problem here? Thanks.

Yep I got 75K out of mine before it went to transmission heaven...

  • Missing a few facts or information...

Did your tranny AFT temp gauge then stop going up once you turned off
    the TC lock up switch?

Did the temp go down or stay where it was before turning off that switch?
  • That's not too hot but one still has to wonder why the temp is rising. It's possible the TC is starting to slip and heat things up. Especially if it's being asked to do something it wasn't designed to do.
