Transmission service

Any options on transmission service: draining vs flushing. I know draining doesn't get the torque converter. Have a 2016 Tundra and the dealers have varied opinions on service as well as mileage intervals. Some say 100,000 mi. Any info will be appreciated.

  • No dipstick is bs. Our new HL is the same way. From what I've seen, a bit of a chore to drain and refill correctly.
With towing, 50K is probably a good idea. I'll be curious how your ATF looks.
  • Thanks. On the 2016 you can't check the fluid level. I am leaning on just draining around 50,000 mi
  • Unless your fluid is badly burned, there is no need to drain the converter.
You can help your transmission by selecting lower gears on hills. I've run Toyotas over a 100K and never changed the trans oil.
