The only thing that matters is numbers, unless you are prepared to tow over the ratings and live with potential consequences. The most important factor will be payload factor and that includes the trailer's TW and wt. of all passengers and other "stuff" in the TV. Kids will grow and there will be more stuff to take along too. Some will always say it's not a problem, I do it all the time so there can't be anything wrong. It's your family and it's your possessions, not someone's anectodal comments that matters.
Maybe you'd be better off buying an older TT that will work better during the renos and then sell it later. If it's a bigger one, get it delivered. Then get the one you want and works. Years ago we bought a FW to live in while building a new house. The fun wore off pretty quickly, esp. when it snowed over the winter. Renos can develop a lot of issues and can drag out longer than expected too.
