I've been towing our 7800 pound (loaded) trailer for over a year with a 2013 Nissan Armada Platinum. No problems at all. Just went from Dubois WY to Salida CO (sitting there now and heading toward Nashville) via 91 and 24 over both passes with no problems at all.
I've probably towed it 10,000 miles from FL to WY over the last year and not a single issue. Mountains, deserts and everything in between. I'm probably a little over on the tongue weight (my Honda 3000 is mounted on a tongue rack) but only by 100 pounds or so. In the TV is 2 adults, 2 26" folding bikes, 2 full tool boxes, a full Igloo and other junk. Works fine for me. May not pass the theoretical weight police test but works in real life. Stops and goes just fine.
I use a $215 WDH I got on sale at CW, 2 $39 Curt friction sway controls off Amazon and the original "China bomb" tires. So far, so good.
